Elisa smiled and gave Goliath another kiss, "Next time though, we should invite Angela over, she’d love to join in."
"She would, she’s a outstanding Poker player. Hudson tells me that she often beats Brooklyn and Lexington when they visit."
Elisa nodded her head beaming, "How about this time next week? We’ll get the whole clan’s family to join in."
And now the conclusion to Once a Starry Night…
* * * *
Elisa and Goliath were lying down on the couch in the Castle Library. Their arms around each other.
"Have you yet asked everyone if they’ll come?" Goliath asked after a moment.
Elisa lifted her head and looked at Goliath, "I thought you were going to ask?"
"Me? No, I thought it was you who was going to? Never mind then, I’ll ask everyone… we’ll ask everyone this evening…" Goliath said, he looked at Elisa, her facial expression was that of a thousand woes. "You cannot make it tonight?"
"Sorry, Captain Chavez gave Matt and I orders to do some case, we’re heading out in an hour’s time."
"So that is why you have come to spend some time with me, before you go?" Elisa nodded her head. "Well at least we get to spend some time together before you leave. This case, it involves that… <ahem> displeasing outfit that you are wearing? It makes your hips look bigger too. I noticed that when you walked in. You really should have chosen something with a little more you in it."
Elisa looked at Goliath in disbelief, was this the gargoyle she had made Vows to spend the rest of her life with? She got up and stood in front of the couch, Goliath stood up behind her. "Goliath, remember when I told you to express what you feel in more words than you usually use?"
Goliath smiled and took Elisa’s hand in his own. "Like it was yesterday." He said.
Elisa shook her head. "Goliath – it was yesterday. Anyway, forget what I told you and be yourself again, okay?"
"Yes I shall. I trust you will forgive me for my insolence?" He looked down at Elisa and smiled at her. Elisa jumped up and planted a big kiss on his lips. "I’ll take that as a yes. You are not to go, for another hour, correct?"
"Correct…" Elisa answered sidelong.
"Good, because I have an idea." Goliath replied.
"What
idea might that be?" Elisa asked. Instead of answering in words
Goliath swept Elisa up off her feet and kissed her. "I like this idea…"
She breathed as they parted at the lips.
An hour later at Elisa’s Apartment
Elisa opened up the door to her apartment and walked inside, the lights throughout the apartment were all on, everything was a mess. As if it had been ransacked.
Just then Beth came out of the bathroom, she was hooking an earing into her right ear.
Ransacked alright, Elisa thought. "You, what, what did you do to my apartment?" She demanded. She wasn’t really worried, who cared, she didn’t. She had a partner waiting down in the car while she came to get a…
"So Elisa… what do you think?" Beth asked impatiently, she swirled around quickly showing off the Sparkling Blue Dress that sat on her hips.
Elisa was so envious, her sister was dressed in a beautiful gown while Elisa had to be stuck in some fastidious gown that she wouldn’t even want to recommend anyone to take a look at yet alone get dressed into. "It’s okay." She soon answered. Her mind was too occupied with other things, things more important like her…
Beth gave Elisa a pat on her shoulder, "You’re so jealous. Oh well never mind, so when do we play our next game of poker? Tonight? I think Goliath deliberately made that move last night… it sucked. Too bad I was only bluffing for him to make that move though."
Beth, Beth, Beth… always trying to find an excuse to why you lost. "Actually, we’re not playing another game until next week, well hopefully. Goliath’s going to ask everyone tonight if they’ll be able to make it. Oh I really hope Lex and Brooklyn can come, they’ve got a human mate each now, everyone wants to meet them. And Angela and Brooklyn, I really hope they can make it. It’d be so cool."
"A gathering of the clan? Sounds exciting, can I come?"
"Are you a gargoyle or do you have a gargoyle mate?" Elisa asked, her lower lip quivered as she tried not to laugh at the look of dismay on her sister’s face.
Sadly, Beth shook her head, "Well no… but can I?" Her face lit up as Elisa gave her a nod, but then Elisa’s head started shaking and Beth stamped her foot like a big baby. "Oh please, I won’t be a bother…"
Elisa kept silent for a moment before she let her wall down, "You can come…Besides, I was just saying know because I wanted to see your reaction from being told, no."
Beth punched Elisa in her arm, "Nag. Hey, I thought you had a case to do, so then why are you here?"
"I do, Matt’s waiting downstairs. And hey, I gave you a key, but it didn’t mean you could come over all the time." Elisa said. She didn’t want to answer her sister, not now, this was one time when she had to leave her sister in suspense as to why she dropped by at her own apartment.
"Oh, I left something here last night, my earings. Stupid me, and hey I asked you why you were here first."
I had to come get a… "Hmm, first thought to come to mind, because I live here. That’s usually how it works, you come to a home if you live in it." She didn’t want to answer her sister’s question, it was too private, more personal.
"Secret’s huh? Oh well, never mind. Listen I’m outta here, I’ve got to meet Morgan down at the 37th."
"Morgan, as in Morgan Morgan?"
"One and only, he’s so sweet."
"He’s also married Beth." Elisa said. She didn’t really care what Beth did with her life. Elisa just wanted to get the item she came for and get out of here.
"He’s seperated actually, they have been for a few months now. Anyway, it’s okay that we go out, he asked me, not the other way around like what happened with…"
"Yeah,
well I’d love to stay and listen, but I’ve got to go." Elisa said. Beth
smiled and they hugged goodbye.
Sometime
later
In Elisa’s car, somewhere in New York
"Matt… you look… really stupid… aha ha ha." Elisa roared into laughter as she turned to take another look at Matt. He was dressed in a green pin striped suit that was very uncomfortable and extremely unpleasant to look at.
Matt scoffed at his partner, "Well what are you complaining about? Yours is just as bad, if not worse. Especially for a woman’s outfit."
"You’ll get yours Bluestone, you’ll get it… time will tell, time will tell."
"Ah, I don’t think that’s how you do rhyming Maza." Matt replied. He poked his tongue at Elisa and laughed at her.
Elisa
poked her tongue back out at Matt , "Smart mouth."
A
few hours later
At the motel
The Manager behind the front desk of the motel looked at Elisa and Matt through the glass window, "Maria Chavez? Certainly did… just a sec…" The man replied. He typed in a few commands on the computer keyboard to his left. "Okay here we go… one room with one bed. Is that the one?"
Matt pulled Elisa away from the window and over to the door. "I thought the Captain ordered two rooms?" Matt asked. Elisa shrugged her shoulders. They walked back to the desk. "Ah, we were told it was two rooms with one bed in each room."
The man behind the glass smiled and typed a few more commands into the computer. "Hmm, it’s got two names here… what are your names please?"
"I’m Matt Bluestone and this is..." Matt started, he pointed towards Elisa.
"Elisa?" Elisa nodded her head. "Those are the names, there’s also a package here for the two of you…" The man said. He walked through the back door and when he came out he was carrying a brown parcel tied with string. "It’s something from Maria Chavez." The man opened up the side door to the room Elisa and Matt stood in and handed them the parcel. "And here’s your key." He said, he took the key from his pocket and handed it to Matt. "Enjoy your stay, Mr and Mrs Bluestone." He walked back through the door, closed and locked it.
Matt and Elisa looked at each other and then to the man. "We’re not married!" They both protested.
"Listen, I only know what’s on the computer here. It says Matt and Elisa Bluestone."

Elisa
and Matt’s room
A few minutes later
Matt unlocked the door to their room and looked in, "Cozy." He said of the small room they were to spend the next few nights in. "I get the window side. I hate sleeping next to doors."
"Wiss." Elisa smirked as she shoved Matt aside and walked into the room. She placed her black suitcase on her side of the bed and sighed. "What’s that?" She asked of the white note that sat on the edge of the bed.
Matt walked into the room, closing the door behind him and picking up the note. "Hmm…" He murmured as he read the piece of paper. "Ah huh, ooh this is good… ooh no, that can’t be good."
"What, what is it?" Elisa asked, she really hoped it wasn’t anything bad.
"It’s our menu for breakfast." Matt replied with a laugh. Elisa picked up one of the pillows and threw it at his head. Matt dropped his suitcase, it landed on his foot and he cursed out loud.
"Matt!?" Elisa gasped. She hadn’t heard him swear before, at least not like that. She apologised.
Matt nodded his head, "It’s okay. Just next time, make sure I’m not carrying a heavy suitcase. What did the Captain put in these things anyway?"
Elisa bent down over her suitcase and opened it up, "Bricks." She added. There wasn’t a trace of humour in her voice.
Matt limped over to his one and looked inside, "Bricks!? Is she crazy?" He asked of the bricks inside his suitcase.
Elisa shrugged her shoulders, who knew if the Captain was crazy or not. Elisa certainly didn’t care, nor did she want to care, her mind was set on the ‘particular item’ in her bag that was still out in the backseat of their rental car.
Over her thoughts she could hear Matt faintly, "Hey partner, I asked you a question."
"Hmpf, what?" She replied. Elisa turned to Matt who was wearing a T-Shirt that read, ‘I’m with Stupid’. A smile stretched across her face, "That’s cute. But why are you wearing it for?"
Matt sat down on the bed, "Missy, she thinks we need something so that people can identify us as a couple."
"And what does her one say?"
"I’m not really with him." Matt answered. Elisa chuckled, "Hey it’s not funny. It actually hurts, she wants us to be recognised as a couple, how would saying she’s not with me let other people see us as one?"
"Think about it Matt, long and hard."
Matt rubbed his head for a moment, "Ohh, you’d have thought she’d do something a little more, loving."
"Yeah you’d have, thought." Elisa replied.
Matt punched her in the shoulder and pushed her down on her back. "Say sorry." He warned with laughter.
Elisa cracked up laughing as she tried squirming away from Matt. She rolled over and crashed down on the ground, landing hard on her back. Her instant reaction was to hold her stomach, worried thoughts ran through her mind as she prayed constantly that she didn’t lose the baby she hoped she was carrying.
"Elisa, I’m really sorry." Matt said. He climbed down off the bed and sat just beside her, "What’s wrong? Why are you holding your stomach for?" He asked. Elisa looked up at him with tearful eyes. "Are you, pregnant?"
"I, I think I might be." Elisa cried. "I hope I didn’t lose our baby." She weeped into Matt’s chest as he hugged her tight.
"Hey!" A voice from behind them yelled. Matt looked behind him to see the manager standing in the doorway, "Son, I want you to back away from her, nice and slowly."
"What?!" Matt exclaimed. He turned back to face Elisa when he heard a unfriendly familiar sound behind him. "I’m just going to stand up, are you going to be okay?" He asked Elisa. She nodded her head. Matt stood up and walked away from Elisa, his hands down by his sides.
"Now, what’s going on here? Did he lay a hand on you Mrs Bluestone?"
"No!" Elisa protested, "I fell backwards off the bed. That’s all." In her mind, along with the prayer for the safety of her unborn baby, was the hopeful thoughts that the man would leave Matt alone and leave their room. But when he stepped in and closed the door behind them Elisa felt all the hairs on the back of her neck stand on end.
"I don’t like liars." The Motel Manager told them with gritted teeth. "I saw him punch you in your shoulder and then you rolled backward, from his push, and fell onto the ground. Now Mr Bluestone! I want you to apologise to your wife, now!"
Matt nodded his head, he crouched down next to Elisa and took her hand in his, "Elisa… honey, I… I’m very sorry that I hit you and caused you to fall off the bed. I hadn’t meant for it to happen, I was just mucking around, and I guess that error nearly cost the life of y… our unborn baby."
Elisa sniffed. She carefully stood up with Matt’s help and smiled. "It was as much my fault as it was yours." She said.
Matt stepped closer to Elisa and they wrapped their arms around each other and hugged. "No way Elisa, I’m taking full blame for it all."
"You’re the best Matt." She told him as they parted.
The manager rubbed his brow, "That’s, more like it." He said before opening the door behind him and leaving.
Without even leaving a minute of air for the two of them to breathe easily from the Manager having just been in the room Matt sat Elisa down on the bed. "Elisa, does Goliath know?"
Elisa shook her head, "No, I haven’t taken the test yet."
"Well, I think that maybe you should." Matt said in a concerned tone. Elisa nodded her head, "Have you got one with you?"
Elisa wiped the tears from her eyes, "Yeah, in my bag, it’s the one still in the car."
"Want me to get it for you?" Matt asked. He stood up and looked down at her for an answer.
Elisa smiled, "Yeah, I’d appreciate that."
Matt looked at Elisa before going out the door to the car. He opened up the passenger side door at the back and took out Elisa’s bag. As he closed the door and turned around he seen Elisa crying. He walked in and closed the door behind him.
"Elisa, are you okay?" He asked as he placed the bag down by Elisa’s feet.
Elisa shook her head, "I miss Goliath, and I want him to be here, just in case the test is positive, so I can share the good news with him in person."
Matt grinned, "There is a way to share it with him Elisa, cellular phone." He offered.
"True." Elisa replied as she wiped the newly developed tears from her eyes.
"And I have one, right here." Matt said removing the cellular phone from it’s pouch on his belt.
Elisa took the phone from Matt and looked at it carefully, "Can you ring him up, and when I tell you to, could you tell him the news?"
"I can do that for you, yes." Matt replied. Elisa smiled widely before reaching down and removing the pregnancy test from her bag. She walked into the bathroom and closed the door behind her. Matt nervously dialled up Xanatos’ number, "Hey Mr Burnett, it’s Matt, Matt Bluestone. Could you put me through to Goliath?"
‘Just a moment Mr Bluestone.’ Owen replied calmly before pressing a button on the phone in front of him and placing the receiver down.
<Brrr Brrr Brrr>
The phone ran through for a couple of seconds before Matt heard an answer on the other end.
‘Yes?’ The voice answered, it was that of Hudson. ‘What kin I help ye with?’
"Hudson, it’s Matt. Could I talk to Goliath?" There was a moment of silence before Matt heard Goliath’s deep voice on the other end, "Goliath, it’s Matt."
‘Matt, how is your case doing? And Elisa?’
"Case would be going well if we knew what we’re doing here and Elisa, she’s alright." Matt’s voice was a little croaky from his nervousness. He sighed silently and took a deep breath in. He hadn’t been so nervous since he asked Missy to go out with him last year.
‘I sense something is wrong.’ Goliath said, his voice concerned and worried.
"No, no, nothing’s wrong. Just, Elisa fell off her side of the bed and well, she’s really upset. That’s why we’re calling…" Matt was cut off by the bathroom door opening, Elisa stood there, she slowly lifted her head up to Matt and looked at him.
Silence filled the air in the motel room and the castle where Goliath awaited patiently for the rest of Matt’s sentence.
"I’m, pregnant." Elisa said gently. She was so happy, her and Goliath’s fondest dream had came true. They would finally be able to start the family that they wanted.
Matt
lit up, "Hey Goliath, hear that? She’s pregnant! Wahoo!" He screached
out, he threw the phone down on the bed, ran up to Elisa and gave her a big
hug.
Castle Wyvern – Living Area
Goliath turned to Hudson and smiled big time, ’Did you hear?’ He asked. Hudson shook his head, "Elisa and I, we are pregnant!’
‘Lad, now there be some good news if I did but hear it before now.’ Hudson said. He walked up to Goliath and put out his hand to shake Goliath’s.
Goliath
shook hands with Hudson but soon had him wrapped in an embrace. ‘We are going
to have a family.’ He said with deep excitement.
Back at Elisa and Matt’s Motel Room
Matt gave Elisa a big smile, "Congratulations partner."
"Thank you." Elisa replied, they hugged again.
"Tell you what, I’ll go wait outside until you’re finished talking with Goliath." Matt said, he gave Elisa a kiss on her cheek and opened and closed the door behind him as he went outside.
Elisa let out a sigh, she was very scared of what to say to Goliath, she picked up the phone and raised it up to her ear. She could hear Goliath and Hudson screaming for joy in the background.
After a few minutes Goliath got back on the phone. "So big guy, what do you think of becoming a full time daddy for the next eighteen years?" Elisa asked with a very notable happy tone in her voice.
‘I shall like that, very much, my love.’ Goliath replied soft and tenderly. Elisa broke into tears and cried into the phone as she listened to Goliath tell her that their life was going to finally begin.
